Scoliosis is a sideways curving of the spine. This is a very serious spinal condition because as the spine distorts, it crushes the nerves that exit the spine. When those nerves are impaired, organ dysfunction and disease is the result. In extreme cases the nerves can become compressed so severely that it can shut down the organs causing death.
